Riverwest 24 on July 29-30, Seeking Volunteers

The Riverwest 24, now in it’s fourth annual year, is looking for volunteers to help run this year’s race on July 29th to 30th.

Below is an email from Wendy, the RW24 volunteer coordinator. If you missed registering this year before the race quickly reached it’s 600 person capacity in just one weekend, I highly recommend getting involved and volunteering in this great community event.

“Hello friends, family and neighbors!

Whoo Hoo! Another RW24 is just over a month away! I hope that you all will be able to join us again and volunteer. Momentum from last year is powering us forward into another amazing day of racing, block parties, community and surprises.

My name is Wendy Mesich and I am coordinating all you fantastic volunteers again. There are five main volunteer opportunities that could use hundreds of volunteers, they are listed below and on the volunteer form.

If you have some other great idea for the event, or a specific skill you want to utilize let me know and I will get you in contact with the organizer who can work with you. We will have a general volunteer meeting closer to the race date. Until then keep your questions and energy coming!

New opportunities this year:

Twenty-four 24hr volunteers: The only thing more hardcore then racing for 24hours is volunteering for 24! We need 24 people to volunteer for 24 hours.

Volunteer Headquarters: Help coordinate a volunteer headquarters registration/meet-up/rest and relaxation space, like all else in the RW24 this will be as awesome as we all can make it together.

Volunteer Lap: For those of you who would like to be part of the riding action, we will be coordinating two volunteer laps. More details to follow.

Main volunteer opportunities:

Scoring
6 people needed at all times. These are 2 or 4 hours(min) shifts that are essential to keeping the race running smoothly.

Safety Volunteers
Needed at busy intersections, to help traffic run smoothly for the riders and the neighbors. 2-4 hour shift(min).

Meal Times
Friday night pre-race meal at the Riverwest Co-op will need volunteers to help set up, serve food, and clean up.

Saturday morning breakfast will need volunteer help the few nights before the race with prep, the night of the race for last minute prep and EARLY Sat morning for setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup.

Checkpoint volunteers
All of our checkpoints could use support. Any nightowls out there? You help mark manifests, keep the energy up and cheer, cheer, cheer. 2 hour(min) shifts

Bonus Checkpoint volunteers
Staff a bonus checkpoint, watch the fun and mayhem and make sure that all the riders are scored correctly. 2 hour(min) shifts

All my contact info is below, can’t wait to meet you!”
