MKEBKE.com, Call For Contributors

September marked the one-year anniversary of MKEBKE.com. In that time, I’ve tried making it a positive resource to help advocate for bicycling in Milwaukee, and to share and promote a variety of news and events.

I sat on a friend’s porch last fall, picking up a wireless signal from Frank ‘N’ Stein in Riverwest, and bought this domain. It started as a simple redirect to a blog site, and with the development help of a friend, is the site you see today. With limited resources, I’m happy with what it’s accomplished so far.

I never intended to run the site single-handedly, and have invited and hoped for others to get involved. I was only able to start and maintain this site with the help of my friends. I don’t own a computer, so this very post is being made from a friend’s laptop. I usually have to go to campus computer lab and use a friend’s student login, the computers at the copy shop, or go to a friend’s house to borrow their computer.

I want to see MKEBKE grow into a more valuable resource to bicyclists in this Milwaukee.

With that, I want to ask for the help of others, of you. There are many positive things happening in this city that I don’t always have the time or consistent resources to share and promote, but I want to be supportive of. If you’re interested in sharing and writing news, hosting rides and events, photographing and documenting events, promoting bicycle advocacy and safety, interviewing shop owners and other cyclists, or have other creative ideas you’d like to contribute.. please get in touch. I’m happy to email back and forth, talk over the phone, or even meet up for coffee or a drink.

Thank you for your time and support, and of course for getting on your bike and riding! Let’s continue to make Milwaukee a better city for bicycling, and just a better city in general.
