YP Week: ‘Biking In Milwaukee’ Lunch N Learn on Monday, 4/16

The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, MKEBKE, and NEWaukee will host a Lunch N Learn on Monday, April 16th at Café Hollander as a kick off to Transit Day, the first day of the week-long Young Professional Week event. The YP Week event is organized by NEWaukee and is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating Milwaukee’s Young Professional organizations.

Presentations, discussions, and literature on biking in Milwaukee will be provided by organizations including the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, Cream City Rickshaw, Flavor Cycles, MKEBKE, Milwaukee Bicycle Collective, The Park People, Tour Of America’s Dairyland, Truly Spoken Cycles, UPAF Ride For The Arts, and special guest Senator Chris Larson. Participants will learn about the opportunities at each of the groups, discuss biking questions, safe riding practices, and initiatives.

The Lunch N Learn will be a great opportunity for individuals to network, as well as a strong forum on how to improve Milwaukee as an even more bicycle/pedestrian-friendly city. There will be a strong representation of the current, and ever-growing, bicycle community we have here in Milwaukee. Reaffirming Newaukee’s mission statement, the organization behind YP Week, we hope to “develop, retain, and cultivate Milwaukee’s valuable talent”.

Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) will provide a hands on demonstration of a how to use the bike racks which are on all buses. It is easy to use, and participants can even try it out for themselves.

MCTS will also talk about the new mobile app that makes using the bus even more convenient. Participants will learn how to get a detailed bus itinerary for trips on their favorite Southeast Wisconsin transit system, and where to buy tickets. The mobile app is for iPhones or Android smartphones.

Urban Milwaukee, Alderman Kovac, Alderman Bauman, and Jeramey Jannen are also hosting a gala later that night, featuring a discussion and presentation about Milwaukee’s future in transit The night gala is being held at the offices of Foley & Lardner on the 40th floor of the US Bank Building.
